Carved Foam System

Carved Foam Systems provide a high level of comfort and pressure relief. CFS are suitable for clients with complex postures.

The assessmant - what should you expect at the assessment?

    1. At the assessment your OT and a memeber of the LCS team will be present. we will look at your current seating system and find out what are the good and bad points of the seating. the good points will be recreated in your new seat.
    2. We will then check your range of motion. this allows us to see how your joints move, this will give us an idea of what shape the seat will look like.
    3. We then transfer you to the moulding bags. the moulding bags are moulded around. we then extract the air from these bags and we are left with your shape.
    4. Whis shape is then scanned using a 3D scanner. this scan is then sent to our engineering team Sligo. This scan is then sent with all the info to make your CFS.

The manufacturing process - how is is made

    1. The scan from the assessmsent is cut into a black of faom. this faom can be low medium or high denisty, this will be depaned on your needs.
    2. The foam is trimed of any excess material so that we see more of the wheelchair user and less of the seating.
    3. The seat and back are interfaced into shells that are mounted to the wheelchair.
    4. Covers are tailor made to the shape, there are many material types and colours so you can personolise to your choice.

    The CFS - key features

    • The CFS provides high levels of comfort and pressure relief. very high levels of pressure relief can be build in, such as roho cushions, to combat pressure wound management.
    • CFS allow for complex postures to be accommadated easily whilst these shapes remain hidden within the mounting shells.
    • Small changes can be made to the CFS after delivery. The foam can be cut and resealed if need be.
    • The covers are easily removed for washing. We alway try not to have lap belts coming through the covers, instead we cut notches to allow access to the lap belt. this aids with removing covers for washing and the position of the lap belt.

After Care - what do I have to do?

When we deliver the CFS will will show you all the features of the system such as:

    • How the covers are taken off for washing
    • How to take the CFS off the wheelchair if you need to fold the chair. adjusting the head, arm and foot supports.
    • The correct positioning of the belts and harnessing. a handover pack will be given which outlines all of the details about your seating system and some useful tips and hints to help you get the most from your CFS.
    • We always advise that you video record the hand over. this way the information can be shared with any new care staff this is involved with transfers and positioning.
